The MaxNetAging Research School (MNARS), was launched by the MaxNetAging Network in October 2007. This stipend program provides funding for doctoral and postdoctoral students. PhD Students can get funding for up to a maximum of three years, Postdocs for up to a maximum of two years. Each MaxNetAging student is affiliated with one of the participating Max Planck Institutes.
At the beginning of the first year, the PhD students and Postdocs spend an initial period of six months at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock. During this time, they spend six hours each week in a course program designed to introduce them into various aspects of aging research.
The initial period of the doctoral program over the first six months is held at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock. The program consists of

 |
weekly Lectures given by eminent scholars from various disciplines, covering a broad range of topics in aging research,

 |
a Graduate Class where PhD and postdoctoral students present and discuss their research projects,

The aim of this, the initial period, is to provide the MNARS fellows with basic instruction, to extend their specialization towards a broader perspective on aging research, to stimulate cross-disciplinary collaboration among the students, and to complement their PhD education. After the end of this period, the students are expected to have substantially developed their PhD dissertation proposal and research projects.
Following the initial period, for the remaining running time of their stipend the PhD students and Postdocs continue their PhD education and research projects at the Max Planck Institutes they are affiliated with, under the supervision of its director. During this period, the students are invited to MaxNetAging workshops.
